July 14 Marketplace content ratingsDear Microsoft, I understand the entire game certification process that it must undergo to recieve a rating from the ESRB before it's retail release. And I also understand why demos are not given a rating because they are still in production. However, why aren't trailers for movies that ARE rated given a rating? Why are parents not able to filter downloads on a child's account based on movie ratings? With Digital Entertainment, it's either you have access to it all, or none of it. This is something that I think could be improved upon. It would give movie studios a captured audience, especially in the 9 and younger age group if the only trailers they were able to view would be PG and under, etc. Those settings would be up to the parent or guardian. Can more specific parental settings be another addition in the fall release? Especially in the case of the Halo 3 documentary I'm glad I didn't watch it in front of any "young ones". Granted, those of us familiar with the Halo franchise know that it will most likely carry an M rating. But what about those that don't know? Can't these clips carry some type of rating as well? I was dissapointed to find that once content downloads are restricted, the user loses all access to Digital Entertainment. I would assume that they'd also lose content such as the Halo 3 documentary. This is a huge loss to developers, film studios, and any other content providers. Perhaps a new Bob The Builder movie comes out and a trailer is released. My 7 year old cousin with a profile won't be able to download it on his own, and if I download it for him I'll have to make darn sure he doesn't try to view a Rumble Roses preview or something like that. However, if the clips were given a rating, (or a projected rating) then market-specific content can be released for everyone. Xbox Live is supposed to be kid-friendly now, let's make it happen.
